In Marvel Contest of Champions, an Elder of the Universe called The Collector summons you to join in an incredible melee of Heroes and Villains. You take on the role of a Summoner, and your job is to assemble the strongest possible team of recognizable Marvel Champions that you can. Each of the 207 playable characters has a star level ranging from one to six; when you start, you'll only have access to one-star Super Heroes and Villains, but you can quickly work your way up to the higher-ranked characters. Every character also comes equipped with their own class, abilities, traits, movements, and special moves, so using each one offers a unique playing experience.

Once you've assembled your team of Marvel Champions, you can begin progressing through the engaging storyline, which is based loosely on the comic book series Contest of Champions. As you play, you'll embark on quests to defeat epic bosses like Kang, Thanos, and a mysterious new Super Villain. Your adventures will take you to several classic locations from the Marvel universe, such as Avengers Tower, Oscorp, Wakanda, The Savage Land, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, and many more.

The further you progress through Marvel Contest of Champions, the more powerful your team will become. As you battle, your Champions will level up, which will improve their stats, abilities, and special moves. When some Champions are put on a team together, they will create special synergy bonuses that make your team more effective. For example, if you team up with characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, your squad will achieve a team affiliation bonus. You can collect more and more characters to fight with as you go, and new Champions are being added to the game frequently.
